About Sarah
I’m Sarah Heather — a contemporary artist based in Cambridgeshire, creating colourful, characterful paintings that bring warmth, movement and a spark of joy into everyday life.
My work is full of expressive marks, bold colour and small story‑moments that make a space feel more alive, personal and uplifting. I paint the things that make me smile — the unexpected personality in a bird, the charm of a crooked cottage, the quiet mischief of a dog, the energy of wild flowers caught in a breeze.
Each piece begins with a feeling or a moment, then grows through layers of colour, texture and intuitive mark‑making until it finds its own voice. Over time, my style has become bright, joyful and full of character — work that feels warm and welcoming, shifts the mood of a room, sparks conversation, or simply makes someone pause and smile.
Nothing about my process is precious or overly serious; it’s playful, expressive and rooted in noticing the small, joyful details of everyday life.
Every artwork is created in my Cambridgeshire studio, surrounded by countryside, dogs, and the kind of quiet that lets ideas unfold naturally. I want my paintings to feel like a burst of personality — contemporary, uplifting pieces that bring colour and story into the spaces they live in.
If you’re looking for art that feels joyful, expressive and full of character, you’re in the right place!

My approach
Colour is central to my practice. I use bold, uplifting palettes and energetic mark‑making to create paintings that feel alive and immediate.
The work isn’t about realism; it’s about capturing the pulse of a moment — the tilt of a head, the sway of a stem, the quiet confidence of a creature that seems to know more than it lets on.
My process is intuitive and physical. I build layers quickly, letting colour and gesture lead the way, then refine just enough for the subject to emerge with clarity and personality.
The result is work that sits between representation and expression — contemporary paintings that feel joyful, spirited and full of life.
At its core, my practice is about connection. I want the viewer to feel something warm and familiar, to recognise a spark of character, or simply enjoy the energy of colour and movement. Each piece is an invitation to pause, smile, and meet the world with a little more lightness.
